A Thought for Today

Be thankful and mean it.

TO BEGIN WITH

Here’s a preview of the new Complete Amsterdam Concert CD. It will be available at The December Holland Concerts next month and January 1st from Stanyan House.

This 2 CD set marks the first time the complete October 1971 Concertgebouw Concert has been available in any form. It includes a dozen unreleased songs from the original program plus a bonus track; a new recording of “What a Wonderful World,” one of the songs I’ll be singing at the concerts.

Rod's random thoughts Cats know. They’re as good as bank clerks at sensing loss or gain, better than the clairvoyant at seeing what’s ahead.

Taking the time to love is, most of all, caring enough to not hold on too tightly and yet not run too loose.

To forget we’re God’s children is to never grow up.

CATS

Cats have the best of it
I suppose they always have.
Curled up in autumn
back behind the stove,
swaggering through shrubbery
in the summer months
pirates seeking treasure
be it hapless mouse or moth.

When ready for some human contact
(usually as mealtime draws near)
they’re friendlier to us than foxes
                             or the possum
but they do not extend lap dog submission.
A cuddle and a scratch behind the ear
is quite enough

Cats, I reckon, have it all
admiration and an endless sleep
and company only when they want it.

-from The Rod McKuen Book of Days, 1981

    AND FINALLY

And speaking of cats, as I often do in this space, KubbyKatt Too (pictured above) is home and on the mend. Thanks to all of you who sent along your concern, kind thoughts, good wishes and prayers.

Needless to say but I’ll do so anyway, this will be a very happy Thanksgiving for all the other cats in this household . . . Dinah, Rocky, Sunny, Edward and yours truly. Sleep warm.
