A Thought for Today

You can widen your life by yourself, but to deepen it you need a friend.

UTRECHT - THE FINAL WRAP

Yesterday Gael Nicholls promised us some pics from Utrecht and here they are - Gael with Rod and one of her husband, Michael, with the man.

Gael tells me she hasn't stopped smiling since returning to London and who can blame her after her first McKuen concert.

Gael and Michael met up with Ton de Kok while at the show and Ton wasn't going to miss out on having his album signed!

I think it's fitting the last word, and the last pic, goes to Joke Vervelde who has done such a great job in sharing the excitement of the weekend with us all. On behalf of everyone - a BIG thank you, Joke.

Hey Ken,

I made a copy for you from the MAX-broadcasting-site, this is from the Sunday show, part 2.

From left to right: David Gross, Andrea Grant from The New London Chorale, Gordon Neville from the NLC, Rod, Amy Vanmeenen from the NLC, Lee Towers, a Dutch singer, and two of the boys from The Twelve Irish Tenors. They sang all together the song "Auld Lang Syne" and it sounds great!!!

It was in Christmas sphere and it is on TV at December 26th! I don't now, but maybe you can see the show on BVN in South Africa! Maybe in the rest of the world too, but again, I don't know ... (December 2004 I visit my family in Pretoria again, and there I've seen Dutch TV at BVN!)

Love,

Joke.

Thanks for the advance notice regarding the show, Joke. I think we do get Dutch Television here on our satellite service so I'll be sure to watch out for it.

And don't you DARE visit South Africa again without stopping by to say hello!!!!!

SONATA / September 28

Summer solstice like a wand
makes magic or dispenses dreams,
in shaping wind and age
it does not choose the easy-out.

Some lost summer rage within
and will not let the Autumn start,
but those found easy to the touch
stay summerbound in memory,
                       and more -
they set the standard
for all summers yet to come.
So it will be with sun days ahead,
in backyards safe or unfamiliar clime -
each will be held up, measured by
          this one now going, gone.
In a season yet ahead
some lark will raid the memory
and find that summer
           hidden, not too well,
that has our names bound into it.
A schoolboy's penknife thrust
that leads initials to a limb
and carves out immortality.
