A Thought for Today
Youth has courage and age experience. I
continue to learn from both.
TWO POEMS from Suspension Bridge
There are other paradises
than those weíre always promised,
some easier to reach.
A plan thought out,
a well-laid table,
a borderline thatís blurred
and needs no sentries.
A well-made coat against the cold
is paradise enough for me this year.
I know that Iíll want more
within the new days coming.
Each manís needs should far exceed
or what are needs for?
I think that heaven now
would be some womanís arms.
Some woman I have yet to meet
and be tripped up by.
Tomorrow I might think the roadís end
One ought to have an option
and yet be covered in the final hour.
Back then to scriptures
and the studying of same.
The one insurance policy
those of us who fear and love
our God in equal measures
dare not be found out without.
-from Suspension Bridge, 1984
