A Thought for Today
The Soul is always at prayer.

FROM the¨BOOKS
THREE POEMS from Rusting in the Rain
Rusting in the Rain continues to be the best-selling book at Stanyan
House and the three poems I’ve selected today are among the most
requested from it.
The Possible / for Patrick Mace
If you can dream it you can do it
I know that to be true.
We have no dreams so lofty
That we cannot stand on tiptoe
and pick ourselves a few.
Our nightmares, and we all share
our share
are not so filled with mavericks
that a little sunlight cannot
send them back to those
dark corners where they leer
and lurk and stir their kettles
and their cauldrons.
Bullies frighten big and small ones
but give a thought to it,
do you know anyone who died
of fright from something that
went bumping, thumping through
some dreary night? Exactly.
If you want it you can earn it
Need a sentence
to write home about?
Study hard and learn it.
There’s a way ‘round everything.
Anything you dream about
has a door that you can open
and go through.
Look at me I’m sitting here
spending time with you.
Circles & Squares / for Ben McMillan
When someone’s whistle fades
take up the song. Embrace the tune,
pass it 'round until it's strong enough
to go off on its own.
If someone stumbles in the ring
it does not mean the fight is done,
perhaps it indicates this match
may have to go another round.
Instead of worrying about defeat,
retreat a little then go back.
It does not take magicianship
to get ahead, you only need walk on.
-from Rusting in the Rain, 2003
Sleep warm and have a safe and easy weekend.
