TRUTH IN PACKAGING |
|
Throughout America its
election day, while our friends in Japan celebrate National Culture Day. There will be a
full moon tonight so dont expect to see me anywhere.
On this day in 1493 Columbus discovered Guadaloupe on his second expedition to this
hemisphere. The romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn (A Midsummer Nights Dream) died
this day in 1857. In 1764 while visiting The Roman Forum, Edward Gibbon got the idea of
writing "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire". In 1924 death took the great
French organist and composer Gabrielle Faure. And in 1956 Russian Troops attacked
Budapest.
In 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson signs a Truth in Packaging Law that requires
manufacturers of prepared food to identify the ingredients on the label. Following are
some random ingredients found on the label of my brother the jocks 16 Oz can of
"New Improved Formula, Joe Weiders Sugar Free 90% Plus Protein, Low Fat, No
Cholesterol Low Lactose Formula Powder" - polmitate niocinomided-calcium
pantolthenateferrcous fumarade, pyridoxine hydrochloride, papai and bromelain. So much for
truth in packaging; what the hell are they? And he says I eat junk food? The nerve.
In 1972 on this date James Taylor and Carley Simon were married on stage at Radio City
Music Hall. As the priest announces "if there is a Rockette among you who has reason
to believe this union should not take place, let her step-tap forward now or forever hold
her peace." At the time (with the exception of Liz and Dick), they were the
highest-paid married couple in the world.

lose your job. Panic: Your wife loses her job.
Again, dont forget to vote today!

Vote! It entitles you
to bitch for the next four years.

The political top is crowded with those who climbed the ladder
of least resistance.

Equality means not only human rights but equal responsibility
to one's neighbor and ones self.

The trouble with voting is that you always wind up electing
somebody. |

ELECTION / For Sister Mark Sandy |
|
I used to wonder why
God only came to visit me on Sunday.
He must have been as bored with me
as I
with him.
One hour once a week was once enough.
Gods really hurt nobody but the poor
and still they go on voting every year.
An echo not a choice.
Ill deal with death when it comes knocking,
the same is true of God.
Even I dont practice what I preach.
If I believed there was no God
Id have to face the possibility of no me.
